Hello! I’m Emily, an autistic woman sharing my lived experiences on the spectrum.
I created Woman on the Spectrum because autism in women is often over-looked and misunderstood. It’s still treated like a myth, a personality quirk, and frequently minimized, preventing autistic women and girls from receiving the support we deserve.
In addition to my diagnosis, I hold degrees in Psychology and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), allowing me to be fluent in in the language people use to describe behavior. My goal is to translate that language back into what it actually looks like to live it; first, for other autistic women seeking connection and understanding, and second, to show allistic persons the realities of autism behind the mask to create understanding and, if we’re lucky, a better world for autistic women and girls.
Welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
Disclaimer: Autism is a spectrum and not all autistic persons will have the same experiences or struggles. Comments are always welcome to include as many perspectives as possible.
